God’s prophetic promise to the nation of Israel is that the day is coming when He will bring them a full restoration from their present apostasy. Isaiah 60 highlights the joy that will come to Israel and her capital city Jerusalem in that day of restoration (vv. 1-2; cf. Isa. 9:1-7). Israel’s eschatological restoration is going to include a complete regathering of Israel’s elect remnant from across the face of the whole world (vv. 3-4; cf. Isa. 11:11-16). Israel’s restoration will also include a massive inflow of wealth from every corner of the Gentile world (vv. 5-9; cf. Isa. 61:6). Instead of being hated by the nations, God says that they will freely seek to help her in her restoration from the ravages of the Great Tribulation Period (vv. 10-14; cf. Isa. 14:1-2). Furthermore, whereas her past ages were characterized as being hated and despised by the rest of the nations, in the messianic kingdom this will be reverses and she will be cherished for the redemption that God brought through her messianic King (vv. 15-17; cf. Isa. 66:11; Zech. 8:13-23). Gone forever will be the ages of war and conflict (v. 18; cf. Isa. 2:2-4), for the kingdom will be an everlasting age of peace and blessing (vv. 19-22; cf. Isa. 12:1-6; 45:24-25).

The promises are wonderful, and they are absolutely certain. Soon, and very soon, Jesus Christ will return to this world and He will bring an end to this reign of terror and wickedness. As we look at the chaos that has begun to overtake our world and country, we need to constantly remind ourselves that all of these events are under the sovereign purposes of God. Amen.
